Dennis Hopper received a star on the Hollywood walk of fame Friday just months after it was announced that he is suffering from terminal cancer. He has always been a true maverick on and off the screen from his roles in B-biker flicks as well as classics like Easy Rider and Rebel Without a Cause to real life antics such as pulling a knife on Rip Torn , destroying hotel rooms and having major acid freak outs(all that just during the making of Easy Rider.) I was saddened to see coverage of the 73 year old actor looking drawn, gaunt and weak on Friday. I recently recieved a nice care package from two of the coolest mofos a dude could know..Pockets and Rudy from Phoenix,AZ..among my surprises were a couple of anti social taillight lenses as well as a Dec 1969 issue of Big Bike which is when I was launched into this cruel world!! Alex Chilton dead! What a career this guy had. Wrote the Boxtops hit "The Letter" when he was fourteen.Went on to found influential band Big Star and produce groups like the Cramps and was imortalized in the Replacements "Alex Chilton."

DAYTONA

Attendance was down again but I still managed to meet new and old friends and have a blast. The chopper show at Willie's was the second biggest bike wise in history but probably the busiest while the Limpnickie one was about half the size as last year. The Cycle Source party was a hit with an open bar tab and free eats that weren't too bad. I don't know what the future holds for bike week. Many have dim predictions but as long as events like Willie's and the Limpnickie keep on, I'll be there!.....Alvarez
